Local Bounty update

| October 30, 2014

Did you know?

This Friday, as a “thank you” to our customers, we will be passing out trick-or-treat bags filled with samples of Local Bounty goodies. Supplies will be limited, so stop in early! Many thanks to you all for your support!

Local, Pastured Turkeys (Pre-order your Whole or Half today)

We’ve had numerous requests in the past for local turkeys for Thanksgiving. And, now we’ve got them. Don’t miss out on Turkey Hill Farm’s turkeys this season – they were pastured on a farm near Fresno. There is an order form at LB for you to pre-order and there are three in the freezer (you may purchase one of these if you like – or just see what you’ll be getting in November). A pick up date will be arranged closer to Thanksgiving.

Upcoming Class: Hosting for the Holidays
Want to learn how to effectively and efficiently meal plan for the holidays? Or, how to create a tablescape that will astound your guests? If so, you won’t want to miss out on our Hosting for the Holidays class with Rashelle Gillett and Theresa Scheetz (what great gals!). Join them on Thursday, Nov. 6 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Local Bounty for an informal talk about how to plan for the upcoming holiday season. Rashelle will talk about how much of various foods to prepare for different size crowds and how to integrate some local ingredients into your feasts (no matter how big or small). Theresa will share ideas on how to set your dinner table – for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. A guaranteed great time. Reservations are $10 and space is limited. To reserve your seat, e-mail localbountycoshocton@gmail.com or call 622-1400. Samples to be served…!

Vendor Updates:

Flying Pig Farm

We’ve had a busy week getting the garden and greenhouse ready for winter. We also celebrated Mary Alice’s first birthday last Friday. I’m not sure where a year has gone!  Due to the hustle and bustle, I’ve restocked jam, rice and soup mixes but didn’t have time to bake any fresh granola. I’m hoping to have some baked goods next week. Have a great weekend everyone and enjoy our last few warm days!

Free As a Bird Eggs

Many of you may be missing Karen Barnes and the Free as a Bird Eggs she had in our market. Karen let us know last week that she is taking a hiatus from selling with us to care for her parents. She hopes to be back to vending as soon as time permits.

Hillbippie

Warm up with a yummy Focaccia loaf, perfect with your soup.  I will also have Rustic French Baguettes today, great for garlic bread!  Tea is restocked, thank you!

Keene Creek Farm

This week we bought 14 more feeder pigs. Crazy. Want to guess what our monthly feed bills are now that we’re feeding 30+ pigs? 🙂 Our bigger piggies are loving the cooler weather. They have several mud holes made down in the pasture and that’s where they prefer to hang out if they’re not up at the feeder. Our roasts were pretty popular last week – if you didn’t get a chance to buy one, we will restock for this week. We are hauling two more hogs to the processor this week, so we will have more mild Italian brats back in stock late next week. And, we are having more lard made for the upcoming holiday season.

Thousand Hill Acres LLC

Hello local bounty customers! We have been very busy around our farm with past, current and future projects. During these times we have still been raising our 100 percent pastured animals. We will be stocking our freezer with 100 percent pastured Red Wattle pork and our first round of 100 percent Grass Fed Beef on Thursday morning. Over the last few months we have been silent with any updates on this feed. You can get our most up to date information from our Facebook page, including locations of our mobile sales trailer! Our Facebook page is: www.Facebook.com/thousandhillacres.
