Local broadcast voice honored at Board of Realtors dinner

Sandy Grier, a Sales Consultant with The Coshocton County Beacon, was honored as the Affiliate of the Year award at the annual Coshocton County Board of Realtors Christmas and awards dinner held Thursday evening, Dec. 7 at the M Event Centre.

Christina Humphreys, a realtor with Century 21 Courtsquare Realty was recognized as the Realtor of the Year at the Coshocton County Board of Realtors annual dinner held Thursday evening, Dec. 7 at the M Event Centre.

COSHOCTON – The Coshocton County Board of Realtors gave out well-deserved awards during their annual Christmas dinner and awards ceremony held at the M Event Centre on Thursday evening, Dec. 7.

A nice crowd of realtors, affiliates, lenders guests and friends attended the dinner, which was catered by Schumaker Farms. The holiday spirit of good cheer and friendship was evident throughout the evening and especially for the highlight of the evening which is Terry Longsworth announcing the Realtor of the Year, Affiliate of the Year and Honorary Member of the Year.

Representatives from the Ohio Association of Realtors (OAR) attended the meeting and special guest Chris Reese provided an OAR update and installed the new slate of officers for the board.

Reese announced that the Coshocton County Board of Realtors was the second-highest board in the state of Ohio in raising RPAC funds.

The new slate of officers for the 2017-2018 year are: Joe Scott, President, Tom Dile, Vice-President, Marlene Griffith, Secretary, Sheila Shingleton, Treasurer, and Past-President, Jim Nelson.

The special awards ceremony was held following the dinner and applause rippled through the room as Terry Longsworth announced that long-time Board of Realtors supporter Tom Thompson of WTNS Radio was named as the Honorary Member of The Year. Thompson was unable to attend the event and Kandy Sampsel accepted the award on behalf of Thompson.

“As all of you know, Tom Thompson has been the voice of Coshocton for many years,” said Sampsel. “I am very grateful for all that he has done for this community, not just at the radio, but he has coached legion baseball for many years. He has had an impact on many young lives throughout our community. They (Tom and Jennie) are very near and dear to me. I am pleased to accept this award on their behalf.”

Longsworth said that, “Thompson has worked in the same office for 44 years and been married to the same woman (Jennie) for 44 years and he has parked in the same parking spot for 44 years”.  This was followed by laughter from the crowd. Well-known and recognized throughout the region and beyond for his sports announcing, knowledge and enthusiasm for high school sports, Thompson received two rounds of applause from the attendees. “This person has not only helped out our board, but they have helped out the community”, said Longsworth. “This was a no-brainer when their name came up. He has been a great friend of the Coshocton County Board of Realtors for many years. I am very pleased to announce that Tom Thompson is our Honorary Member of the Year”.

Christina Humphreys, a realtor with Century 21 Courtsquare Realty, was recognized as the Realtor of the Year and Sandy Grier, a sales consultant with The Coshocton County Beacon, was honored as the Affiliate of the Year.

Stephanie Conrad, who organized the dinner, provided an update of the board’s activities and donations for the year which included: Coshocton Fire Pups, Coshocton Schools Community Thanksgiving Dinner, Ridgewood Christmas Luncheon, Coshocton Toy Chest, Coshocton Nazarene, Community Meals, Central Christian, Community Meals, Grace United Methodist, Community Meals, Presbyterian Church, Community Meals and Roscoe United Methodist, Community Meals.

In addition to the above donations, the Coshocton County Board of Realtors awards four $1,000 dollar scholarships to a student from River View, Ridgewood, Coshocton and the Coshocton County Career Center each year. The board also supports the Junior Fair Livestock Auction at the fair each fall.
