Local track & field athletes head to state

COSHOCTON – Athletes from Coshocton, River View and Ridgewood are headed to the state track & field meet in Columbus this weekend after strong showings at their respective regionals. Nick Kirkpatrick, a junior pole vaulter for the Redskins, placed second at New Concord with a final vault of 14 feet, 3 inches.

The Black Bears will be sending their 4×800 relay team to state with a fourth place finish at New Concord. Michael Hardesty, (10) Lane Beatty, (9), Chris St. Clair (12) and Steven Scheetz (12) came in with a time of 8.09.07 in the finals, a new school record at RV.

Scheetz will also be competing in the boys 3200 meter run, placing first and qualifying for state with a time of 9.46.67 while teammate Chris St. Clair will be competing in the boys 800 meter run by finishing fourth and qualifying.

The Generals will be sending their 4×100 relay team of Jarrett Art (12), Billy Bailey (11), Zak Donley (12) and Michael Kelly (10) to state. They placed first in the finals with a time of 43.82. Jarrett Art (12) will also be competing in the long jump, making a jump of 20-10.00 to place first at the regionals.

For River View, the girls 4×800 relay team finished 13th. The team consists of Bella Pendola (11), Cassidi Bookless (9), Samantha Douglass (11) and Kelsey Strange (10) with a time of 10.29.36.

Grace Wherley (11) competed for RV in the girls’ 100 meter dash, placing 12th in the prelims.

Marcus Carroll (11) placed 10th in the prelims for Coshocton and Doug Boals (12) for RV placed 15th in the prelims in the 100 meter dash.

Bella Pendola (11) for RV placed 13th in the girls 1600 meter run in the prelims.

River View’s 4×100 meter relay team of Cassidi Bookless (9), Kayla Metz (11), Whitney Fender (11) and Grace Wherley (11) placed sixth in the finals with a time of 52.20, only missing the top four qualifying spots by six tenths of a second.

The Redskins 4×100 meter relay team of Spencer McCrea (11), Tristyn VanAtta (11), Donald Stiteler (12) and Marcus Carroll (11) placed 11th in the prelims while the RV boys 4×100 meter relay team of Tyler Pinckard (11), Doug Boals (12), Grant Gunn (9) and Andy Smith (11) placed 14th.

Cassidi Bookless (9) placed 11th in the girls 400 meter dash prelims.

Chris St. Clair (12) for RV placed fourth in the boys 800 meter run with a time of 1.57.79.

Doug Boals (12) for River View placed 11th in the 200 meter dash prelims. Donald Stiteler (12) placed 13th in the same event.

River View’s 4×400 meter relay team placed 11th in the prelims with Cassidi Bookless (9), Kristen Douglass (11), Jesse Vandenbark (9) and Kelsey Strange (10) competing.

Brooklyn Douglass (9) competed in the girls’ high jump, tying for 12th in the prelims.

Nathan Leopard (12), placed seventh in the boys shot with 49.01.50.

RV’s Fawn Denbow (12) tied for 8th place in the girls’ pole vault at 8.06.00.

Ridgewood boys and girls and the Coshocton girls track & field competed in the DIII regional with the Redskins Tyra Woods (9) placing 10th in the girls’ 100 meter dash.

Zak Donley (12) placed seventh in the boys’ 100 meter dash.

The Redskins 4×100 girls relay team placed 14th in the prelims with Tesha Cass (9), Kennedy Haley (9), Katie Neighbor (9) and Tyra Woods (9) competing.

Ridgewood’s Zak Donley (12) and Jarrett Art (12) placed fifth and sixth in the boys’ 200 meter dash, just missing qualifying for state.

Anthony Harmon (9) for Ridgewood competed in the boys discus throw, placing 16th.

Tyra Woods (9) for the Redskins placed 15th in the girls’ long jump and eighth in the girls’ pole vault with a vault of 9-06.00.

Blake Feldner (12) for the Generals placed ninth in the boys’ shot put at 46-01.50.
