Mae Price Dilly
COSHOCTON – Mrs. Mae (Price) Dilly died peacefully on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 in Newcomerstown, Ohio at the age of 94.
Mae was born on June 20, 1920 at Marsh Fork in Raleigh County, WV to Harrison and Laura (Pettry) Price. She married John H. Dilly on November 16, 1944. They began their family in Dry Creek, WV. Mae became an instant mother when she married John, who was a widower. After moving to a farm in Coshocton County in 1955, the couple welcomed many more children and grandchildren into their home on the farm and Mae set about raising them with strong Christian values. Her family remembers her as a mother and grandmother who enjoyed playing games and having fun with them.
Mae was the most amazing mother. She was more alive than many people half her age. She was accomplished at music and often played the piano and guitar for family entertainment. She was a sociable individual who loved to dance and was passionate about dancing at social clubs on weekends. Her children and grandchildren loved to dance with her. (She taught us all how to dance!) She enjoyed having fun with her family and friends. Mae loved to wear fun clothes, like cowboy hats, high-heeled shoes and boots, and blazers trimmed with fringe. She liked to have fun, and didn’t care what others thought about that. And, when she met someone she knew, she didn’t just smile from ear to ear, she also gave them a big hug. Mae enjoyed her family. And, even though it was huge, she could remember which one bought her what! She raised her children as a dedicated member of the Church of God and often attended with her children at Warsaw.
Mae is survived by twelve children, including five sons; Roy Dilly of Cleveland, Harold (Dot) Dilly of Montgomery AL, Richard (Tess) Dilly of Harriman TN, David (Patty) Dilly of Fresno, and Franklin (Cathy) Dilly of Warsaw; and seven daughters; Betty (Dave) Buxton of Dilley TX, Mary (Craig) Ross, Trecia Atwood and Laura (Henry) Grogro all of Coshocton, Kathryn (Jeff) Cunningham and Connie (Jimmy) Bratton both of Warsaw, and Michelle Murphy of Coshocton. Mae’s descendants number more than 150. In addition to her children, she has 43 grandchildren, 77 great-grandchildren, 13+ great-great-grandchildren, and a special friend, Harold Treadway of Coshocton.
In addition to her parents, Harrison and Laura (Pettry) Price, and her husband, John Dilly, she is preceded in death by son, Carl Dilly, two daughters; Margie Whitney and Hope Forrester, five infants, five brothers; Herman, Norman, Hersie, Robert and Elmer Price, and two sisters; Nanny Aliff and Reba Toney.
A celebration of life is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014 at the Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw. Jonathan Atwood, Mae’s grandson, will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mae’s life. Music will be provided by Mae’s grandson Rick Dilly. Visitation is from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Dutch Run Cemetery on CR 20, with a reception immediately afterwards at the home of Mae’s grandson Anthony Atwood, on the old Dilly farm. Memorial donations may be made to Tuscarawas Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave, SW New Philadelphia, OH 44663. Condolences can be sent to the Mae Dilly Family, 1760 Buena Vista Dr. Coshocton, OH 43812. The family would like to thank Riverside Manor in Newcomerstown for their care and dedication. www.fischerfuneralhome.com
