I could write about the Cavs loss in game one and an almost must win game on Sunday evening. WHICH THEY WON!! Losing Irving is a blow, to say the least but this team has proven their resilience all season. Heading back to Cleveland with the series tied 1-1 is huge. Or we could reference American Pharaoh being the first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed did it in 1978. This is quite a feat when you consider the tracks are all different and different lengths.

I think what we should focus on is the tremendous amount of volunteer spirit and talent that we have here in Coshocton County. The 2015 Hot Air Balloon Festival was a great community event with hot air balloon launches, nightglow, food and loads of gifted entertainment. The group of volunteers that make up the committee did themselves proud with this year’s event. The hours and hours spent planning, working, making phone calls, sending emails, etc., were well worth the time from the perspective of this member of the community. And adding a queen’s contest to the event was the icing on the cake. And can you really say enough about the folks at Frontier Power for their continued major sponsorship of this event? They not only contribute a large amount of funds but they also provide a lot of volunteers to help.

The corvettes are cruising into Roscoe Village this Sunday! It’s always a blast to see America’s favorite piece of machinery on display. Disagree on the favorite part? Okay – perhaps a vintage Camaro, GTO or Mustang rank up there pretty high but you gotta admit that the distinctive sound of a Corvette’s engine is one to behold. And of course, there are others that fit the bill for many.

You can’t say enough about our local track athletes and their performance at the state track meet. You can find an article inside this issue of The Beacon with details but again, another example of people in our community working hard and putting their best foot forward – literally in this case.

The Indians are moving in the right direction – with the Tigers slumping perhaps they can overtake them in a couple of weeks and move into third place before the All-Star break. The Tribe is only 6 games back of first. Despite a nice number of wins the Pirates are in second behind St. Louis – who appear to be having another terrific season. The Reds are thirteen back and in fourth place – but have three wins less than Cleveland if that is any indication of the differences in divisions this year – or any year perhaps.

Let’s go back to the Cavs – can they do it? Without Irving? The pundits say “Yes”.

Done any power-washing lately? Here’s a tip – if you are working on the front porch and are going to include the “ceiling” of the porch–DO THAT FIRST! Clean the floor last. Really saves time and water that way.
