Here we go! How could it possibly be time for the holidays again? In Coshocton that means it’s time for the annual Miracle on Main Street parade – coming to you live from Main Street, Coshocton this Friday, Nov. 22 – and please note the new start time for the parade – 5:30 p.m.!

There are a lot of people that make this parade happen – and it starts with the Our Town Coshocton group – thank you for making this parade possible! You know who will be arriving with the parade! Tell the kiddies and come on down to Main Street to enjoy some cookies, beverage and the parade.

Last weeks’ column was written before the big Thursday night battle between the Browns and the Steelers – well, it was all good until the final few seconds. Wow. What was Garrett thinking? Certainly not a team approach with that move. Placed on an indefinite suspension by the NFL, which includes all of this season and could even extend into next year, various sources have reported that the Browns will appeal the indefinite suspension. It just seems that the boys by the lake take three steps forward and two back – or maybe even the other way around.

The decorations on Main Street are beautiful – take a drive downtown and check ‘em out!

With Thanksgiving next week, we are heading into crunch time for the Buckeyes – Saturday’s game against Penn State and then the annual showdown with TTUN on Saturday, Nov. 30 – both are noon kickoffs. And all this back and forth of Ohio State and LSU for the number one spot in the national rankings means nothing – right now. It will become important as the stage gets set for the playoff. First things first means taking care of the business at hand – and that is the Nittany Lions. It’s usually a competitive game.

How about those Ridgewood Generals? The boys from West Lafayette took down the Wheelersburg Pirates for the first time ever in handy fashion and are headed to their next playoff game against the Ironton Tigers this Saturday. See page 2 of this issue for game time and location. Good luck Generals!!

What does your menu look like for Thanksgiving? The usual? Turkey with all the trimmings? Stuffing? Mashed taters? More stuffing? More taters? Cranberry salad? Rolls, bread, maybe biscuits? Baked corn? Green bean casserole? Sweet potato pie or any version of sweet potatoes? Let’s turn the conversation to pie – your dessert may be different but pie tops the list at our house – pumpkin and some pecan. And of course, pie is only pie if it is topped with lots of whipped topping. We always used to kid Dad – are you eating a little pie with that whipped topping? Good memories for sure. And now I’m hungry.

The meal is always topped off with some good conversation and time with the family – then throw in some football and tossing the beach ball (we are indoors after all) with the grandkids and then probably a nap to wrap up the day – oh, then it’s on to the leftovers! We can’t forget the leftovers.

Regardless of your menu, perhaps we can all hit the pause button on the dysfunction in Washington D.C. and be thankful for all that we have here in America. Sometimes we just need a reminder.
