Did you vote? According to statistics less than 50% of registered voters use the right that came with a very high price tag to cast a ballot in what is often called “an off year” election. I guess it’s kind of like a baseball player that just doesn’t live up to the expectations of management and fans, or perhaps a certain football team that just happens to play in a stadium with a certain shape. Saturday’s performance laid a great big Hawkeye egg. And Humpty Dumpty can’t put this one back together again. In Buckeye land it’s all about bragging rights and playing the spoiler. Four teams remain unbeaten in the top 10 of college football.

There are 7 House seats and one Senate seat up for election on Nov. 7, 2017 with a handful of special Congressional elections to be held across the nation. Locally, lots of township positions, some city council seats, and several levies were on the Coshocton County and City ballots. Obviously, your ballot choices locally depend on where you live.

November is shaping up to be a month filled with lots of good stuff in our community. Already concluded was the Kiwanis Pancake Day with lots of folks coming out to support this worthwhile event. Another local service club is gearing up for things with the annual Rotary days of Christmas – get your tickets quick! And coming up is a perennial favorite – the Warsaw Lions Club Minstrel Show – held the weekend prior to Thanksgiving at River View High School – this event always delivers on fun and wholesome entertainment! I have heard that “Diamond Dave” may be on a Midwest tour?

Local schools will soon be presenting their programs for the holidays – another fun treat for the ears. Whether you go to an elementary, junior high or a high school program, you can be assured that lots of time was invested by the young musicians involved, the band and choir leaders and of course, the many parents that haul the kids to and fro for many school events.

It’s deer hunting time in Coshocton County! Unless you are hiding under a rock, or perhaps fell asleep in your tree stand, you know that Coshocton County is always a leader in the deer harvest. Whether you hunt with a bow, shotgun, muzzleloader or otherwise, a lot of your success depends on the weather. There was just about one less buck – a nice one too – last Friday when I happened to miss it in the car by – well, literally a deer hair. Yes, I saw it on the bumper. Okay, maybe not that close but I could smell what it had been eating on its breath – corn and some wild onions. It was a warm afternoon and the window was down. Come on!

#88 is wrapping it up and will be spending some time in the broadcast booth. Well earned. The Columbus Crew is 12-3-2 at home and deserves to stay in Columbus. And it is even possible that the Craw could be hosting the 2017 MLS Cup Final. That would make a statement about a possible new stadium a loud one.
