COSHOCTON – Martha M. Carpenter, age 90, passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2017 with loved ones at her side.

Martha was born March 15, 1927 in Noble County, and was the daughter of Howard McKinley and Anna (Eschbach) Bates. On July 1, 1950 she married Elvin B. Carpenter and he preceded her in death on Oct. 16, 1995.

Martha retired from Edmonts as a mechanic. She also worked at a young age at Berger Aircraft and was known as one of the “Rosie the Riveter’s.” She also worked several years at Westinghouse in Cambridge. Martha enjoyed bowling, traveling and loved being around her family and Teddy. She will be remembered for having the biggest heart, always giving unconditional love and putting others before herself. She will be missed by family, friends and her bowling friends. God blessed us with an angel who is now with loved ones suffering no more.

She is survived by her daughters, Kathy (George) Miller of Newcomerstown, Ohio, Debbie (Bill) Powell of Sullivan, Indiana; grandchildren, Dan Norman, Billy and Hap Powell, and Tessa Thompson; 11 great-grandchildren; sister Bonnie McLees; and 28 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by son Larry F. Carpenter; husband; brothers, Byron and Harry Bates; and sisters, Olive Starr and Margaret Yoho.

Martha’s wishes were to be cremated with a celebration of life at a later date.

A special thank you to the bowling girls, the friend and family that visit and to the hospice team we will be forever grateful.

Free Funeral Home Coshocton, Ohio is handling the arrangements.
