Mary Elizabeth Smith
Mary Elizabeth Smith, 93, of Coshocton, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 12, 2021. She was born on April 10, 1928 in Coshocton, to the late Joseph M. and Mary (Abbott) Williams.
Mary was a 1946 graduate of Coshocton High School and on Oct. 10, 1947, she married John “Jack” Foster Smith who passed away on Oct. 1, 2003.
She was a secretary for Washington School in 1966; worked in the Coshocton High School office and then worked for the administration office under the superintendent before retiring in 1988.
Mary has been a member of the Presbyterian Church of Coshocton since 1940 and sang in the church choir. She was one of the original members of the community choir, was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and enjoyed genealogy and ancestry history. Mary (Williams) was very proud that she was a descendant of one of the original founding families of Coshocton. She loved to draw, paint, listen to music, play games and was very family oriented. Mary was loved by many and will truly be missed.
She is survived by her three children, John Smith, Joseph (Barbara) Smith and Julia Smith all of Coshocton; three grandchildren, Jennifer (David) Lukas, Jacqueline (Scott) Farley and John Calan (Hannah) Smith; five great-grandchildren, Anthony, Hannah, Jackson, John C. and Calan; and several nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents and husband of 55 years, Mary is preceded in death by her two brothers and sisters-in-law, David G. (Shirley) Williams and Joseph (Eloise) Williams.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2021 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Given-Dawson-Paisley Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Charles R. Snyder officiating. Burial will follow at South Lawn Cemetery.
