Michael E. “Mike” Johnson, 71, died Sunday, April 7, 2024 in his home with his wife by his side.

He was born Nov. 10, 1952 in Portsmouth to the late Darrell V. and Ruth O. (Nickells) Johnson.

Mike’s happiest moments and greatest joys were those spent with his grandchildren, and later his great-grandchildren. He was an avid card player and enjoyed many afternoons with his card playing buddies at “the pool hall”.

He was a retired general contractor and owner of Johnson Rentals. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Newark.

Mike is survived by his wife of nearly 51 years, Cynthia (Varner) Johnson of Warsaw; two sons, Curt (Bobbie) Johnson of Warsaw, and Aaron (Bobbi) Johnson of Brewer, Maine; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, who were the loves of his life; three brothers, David (Sherry) Johnson of Buckeye Lake, Steven (Annabelle) Johnson of Nashport, and Bill (Amy) Johnson of West Carlisle; several nieces and nephews; and very special friends, the Brinker family.
