Miller welcomed home after winning Miss Ohio

| June 19, 2023

Madison Miller, daughter of Valerie and Matt Miller of Coshocton won the title for Miss Ohio 2023 at the Renaissance Theater in Mansfield on Saturday evening, June 17. In just a few hours the Coshocton community organized a welcome home parade on June 18 from Coshocton High School to the court square with cheers and handmade signs from the community. Climbing down from a Coshocton Firetruck she was escorted to the square by Mayor Mark Mills.

“I want to celebrate a little bit with you all before I head back to reality and start my prep for Miss America,” Madison said. “I want to thank my honor flight veterans for coming. They followed me in the pouring rain in the Miss Ohio parade. They rode on their motorcycles all the way from Columbus to Mansfield to sit with me in the rain for four hours and gave me their support. Thank you to my parents and my family for always being there for me. We have about six months until Miss America and another year of serving the state of Ohio. I am very overwhelmed. My life changed about 12 hours ago.”

Matt and Valerie, Madison’s parents said they knew from a young age that Madison was going to do something great.

Dad said, “When she was about 18 or 19, she decided that she was going to do the Miss Ohio scholarship program. This is her third year competing and she was true to herself in being the person that she is. She is very compassionate, very genuine and a very talented pianist. She has a 501c3 that she created on her own called the Veterans Narrative. She MC’s the Honor Flight. She is supporting all the veterans across the state of Ohio. She plays piano as well at Windsorwood and at the funeral home and other places.”

Mom said, “This is her third chance at Miss Ohio. The first year she didn’t really know who she was and the second year she figured out that all she needed to be was Madison Miller. This year, she said all year, ‘I think I can be Miss Ohio.’ She’s been doing this without the crown on her head. She’s been doing this role of Miss Ohio by working with the veterans and MC’s the Honor Flight at community events.”

Madison said, “This is absolutely incredible. Just last evening, I was given the role of a lifetime and the opportunity of a lifetime and the first thing I wanted to do was to come home. The support of the community has been absolutely unreal, and I think this is a testament to that. We posted just three hours ago that we were doing this, and the streets were lined with people holding signs and they were cheering for me. I just feel so loved and I’m so fortunate to be able to represent this state knowing that my heart is from Coshocton.”

Mills said, “I would say, Miss America here we come.”
