MVHC offers vaccine options for the community
Over the past several months, MVHC has continued to offer convenient options for the community to receive vaccinations, including COVID-19 vaccines and boosters as well as flu vaccines.
One way they are improving community access to vaccines is through their partnership with local schools and businesses in Coshocton, Guernsey, Morgan, and Muskingum Counties to host on-sight vaccine clinics. Eligible individuals at these locations have the opportunity to receive their COVID-19 vaccine or booster and, given the new guidance from the CDC allowing COVID-19 and flu vaccine co-administration, even their flu shot.
When COVID-19 vaccines became available earlier this year, MVHC worked with local schools and businesses to administer the first and second doses at on-site clinics. Seeing the tremendous response and turn out at the initial clinics, they said it only made sense to team up and offer COVID-19 boosters in the same manner.
“Schools and businesses have vital roles in our communities,” said Dan Atkinson, chief executive officer at MVHC. “Offering convenient on-site vaccine clinics allows a large number of individuals the opportunity to receive their vaccines and vaccine boosters, helping combat the spread of COVID-19.” MVHC even offered flexible clinic hours to accommodate workers on shift schedules as they may not have the opportunity to receive their vaccines otherwise.
MVHC will also be administering vaccinations in their new Mobile Health Units. “The MVHC Mobile Health Program, which rolled out earlier this year, is dedicated to delivering healthcare to many of our smaller and rural communities throughout MVHC’s service area,” said Atkinson. “The program includes three Mobile Health Units which offer an exam room and are fully equipped to offer primary care medical visits, lab services, and immunizations.” In addition to the mobile clinic vehicles, MVHC has a Sprinter Van that can be used for testing, vaccinations, patient education, and community outreach.
MVHC is offering COVID-19 vaccines and boosters as well as flu vaccines by appointment at select Coshocton, Guernsey, Morgan, and Muskingum locations. COVID-19 vaccines are available to individuals ages 5 and up. COVID-19 vaccine boosters are available for individuals age 18 and up who received their initial series of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine at least 6 months ago or their initial dose of the Johnson & Johnson/Janssen vaccine at least two months ago. MVHC also offers free transportation services to get patients to and from MVHC appointments if needed.
To date this year, MVHC has administered over 24,000 COVID-19 vaccines and over 4,000 flu vaccines.
