New low cost spay/neuter program coming to Coshocton
Everyone in the community has a responsibility to help control stray and unwanted cat and dog population. For some families, the cost of spaying or neutering their pet is too high and they simply can’t afford to do the right thing.
The Coshocton County Animal Shelter and HATA is happy to announce a new, low-cost provider for Coshocton and surrounding counties. AlterClinic visited the shelter in February and has assisted 16 animals, so far, with spay and neuter services. The dates for upcoming clinics are Wednesday, April 2, Wednesday, June 4, Wednesday, Aug. 13, and Wednesday, Oct. 8.
These are transportation clinics. That means that AlterClinic will meet families at the Coshocton County Animal Shelter to pick up the animals, take them back to their clinic for surgery and return the animals later that same day.
You must make an appointment for the transportation clinics by calling 234-804-3064. The clinic will take your information and call you the week before the scheduled transport with appointment details. Right now, transport is only available for spay and neuter surgeries. If needed, pets can receive vaccinations and microchipping while at the clinic for surgery.
The cost for the transportation is $5 per pet. Payment for surgery is due when the appointment is made. Pets will be dropped off around 7 a.m. and will need to be picked up at 5 p.m. People outside of Coshocton County are eligible to use the transportation clinics.
Costs for the surgeries are cat spay $75, cat neuter $65, dog spay $142+, and dog neuter $120+. More information on these costs can be obtained by calling the clinic.
Hayley Sturtz, shelter manager, said they saw thousands of dogs and cats last year and are hoping by offering these clinics that the number will be reduced. Rescues and shelters are full across the state.
“We want to remind our community that we are the only open admission serving Coshocton county dogs and cats. We are always accepting animals,” she said. “Young cats can become pregnant at four months of age, and as we see warmer temperatures year-round now, the breeding seasons don’t have the lulls they once did. Fixing the strays you feed is one of the most important steps one can take and this clinic accepts trapped cats which is an incredibly important service.”
The Coshocton County Animal Shelter is a 501c3 non – profit and is constantly providing veterinary care to animals that desperately need help. Donations are gratefully accepted to help them with their mission.
The shelter is located at 21755 T.R. 164 in Coshocton. For information, email hataofccas@yahoo.com or call 740-622-9741.
