New lunchtime program launched at JH Museum
The Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum is proud to announce the return of monthly lunchtime programs. Beginning Feb. 15 at noon, and continuing on every third Tuesday of each month, join Artifact Chats. Bring a lunch or enjoy some snacks on the museum as people gather together and casually discuss a new topic each month, all centered around artifacts. What makes an item an artifact can vary, and each program will explore this vast topic with interesting and informative stories.
Three Generations of Wyeth Art is the first topic on Feb. 15. The original painting by N. C. Wyeth, “Corn Harvest in the Hill Country” (1945), is a favorite at JHM. For more than a century, N. C and his offspring have created art that captures and captivates the American imagination.
The second meeting will be titled “Meet Me at the Museum: Ancient People/Modern Lives” and will take place on March 15. In the novel “Meet Me at the Museum” by Anne Youngson, an English farm wife and a Danish museum curator strike up a friendship through the letters they write to each other about the Tollund Man, an archaeological “artifact” at the Silkeborg Museum in Denmark. The Tollund Man, who lived during the Iron Age and whose intact body was discovered in a bog in 1950, would have been a contemporary of the people of the Adena Culture in Ohio. Meet at the museum to see some of the Adena artifacts in the collection and to chat about similarities and differences between these ancient peoples and what they might have to teach us about living in the modern world. You don’t have to read the novel to enjoy the conversation, but if you would like to, copies of the book are available through the Coshocton Public Library.
No registration is needed. This program is offered at no charge and made possible by the support of the Ohio Arts Council.
The Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum is located in Historic Roscoe Village at 300 N. Whitewoman St., Coshocton, OH 43812. Museum hours are Friday through Sunday, noon to 4 p.m.
