New Philadelphia defeats Ridgewood

NEW PHILADELPHIA – In girls’ soccer, Natalie Wanosik broke a 1-1 tie scoring a goal with 14:40 to play as New Philadelphia defeated Ridgewood 2-1.

Hannah Dennison scored the first goal of the match in the 23rd minute to give the quakers the lead.

Taylor Zinkon got Ridgewood on the board knocking in a ball that Mackenzie Bates redirected from an Anna Powell direct kick. Zinkon’s goal came 4 minutes before the half and was her 3rd of the season.

New Philadelphia held a 15-5 advantage in shots.

Sam Moore had 7 saves in goal for the Orange and Black.  Sydney Mari had 3 for New Philadelphia.

Ridgewood best chance to score in the 2nd half came off the foot of Moore who moved up to forward in the last 7 minutes. Moore’s direct kick from 25 yards sailed just over the crossbar.

Ridgewood finished the regular season 10-3-2. New Philadelphia improved to 6-7-1.

Ridgewood faces St. Clairsville on Tuesday in the opening round off the sectional tournament at West Muskingum.
