New Rust Decor owners grow number of vendors
Jill and Kevin Sheridan have a little bit of everything for everyone in their store at 1148 Walnut St. The number of vendors has increased from the 15 they inherited when they first purchased Rust Decor in June to 30 vendors at this time.
“We’re going to stop at 30. It’s a good number for the 5000 square foot space we have. You’re sure to find something you like. If someone says, I have a blank wall and I don’t know what to put there. We can help with that,” Jill said.
The Sheridans started with home pallet painting parties, then expanded to include different crafts with a love for repurposing old furniture before purchasing Rust Decor.
One of their vendors also repurposes furniture plus they have cutting boards, tables, chairs, pillows, potpourri, signs, pottery – you name it. There is even a small boutique with body products and lotions.
“We have a gentleman who makes body products for men. Cologne, beard balm – you use the balm on your beard, and it makes it really soft and it smells really awesome. Custom candles, signs, things like that. Also, jewelry, sweatshirts, t-shirts and all of the vendors do custom orders.” Jill said.
Rustic Decor offers private workshops for small groups; a great activity for friends to get together, and online workshops as well. A calendar for the workshops hangs in the store or it can be viewed online. Some examples for projects include, wreathmaking, string art, painting, tumbles, mug rugs, calligraphy, sewing, macrame and glitter mugs with each class taught by different local artists. You can sign up in person or sign up and pay online.
The Sheridans purchased the store from Jenny and Greg Coffman in June 2020. Jill and Jenny have been friends since their children took lessons together at Miss Jennifer’s Dance Studio. When the Coffmans decided to move, Jenny asked if they were interested in the business and it was the perfect opportunity for them.
Rust Decor is planning a Christmas open house on Saturday, Nov. 7. The first 50 customers will receive a Christmas cookie with a discount on the wrapper for 10% to 30% off their entire purchase and a separate holiday special for 20% off on furniture. Santa will be there from 1-3 p.m. Children are invited to bring their letters to Santa and give them to him at the store.
A big flag that says open is beside the main entrance when the store is open, and they are right across the street from the Yucatan Restaurant on Walnut Street.
Rust Decor is planning a move to 115 S. Sixth St. early next year after they get through the holiday season. Their current building is for sale and the new location will be closer to downtown and provide a better traffic flow.
Store hours are Tuesday through Friday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
