Optics Plus Vision Center moves to new location on Chestnut Street

COSHOCTON – Optics Plus Vision Center held a ribbon cutting ceremony at their new location on Chestnut Street on Friday, Dec. 6.

Dr. Charles Fornara has been in Coshocton since 2006 and purchased the practice on Main Street from Dr. Charles W. Snide that same year, who had been in that location since the 1950s. Previously, Fornara practiced optometry in Arizona for 20 years.

“We were looking for something larger, something more modern,” said Fornara. “We wanted something newer and with more space where we thought we could grow. It also has better accessibility for our patients.”

Fornara was made aware of the building on Chestnut Street through a patient.

“A patient of ours was aware that this had become available while I was on vacation in the summer, and the first day I was back, I came over and looked at it,” said Fornara.

The staff did minor building renovations to customize the space for their needs including a fresh coat of paint on the walls, but the biggest change was to the optical area. Optics Plus now features a brand new optical display for patients to select just the right glasses frame for them.

“The location and the layout were what made us chose this building,” said Fornara. “It was almost turn-key. We didn’t have to do too much.”

Fornara said he had looked at other places over the years that did not meet their needs. However, the building on Chestnut Street has received positive feedback from their patients since they moved in for business on Sept. 17.

Optics Plus Vision Center offers full service optometric care, eyeglasses, contacts, and non-surgical medical eye care. Their staff includes Fornara, Mary Butcher, Meghan Wise, Tracy Kittell, Aimee Jacobs, Ryan Quinlan, and Rita Howman.

“Dr. Fornara makes it easy for us to do our jobs,” said Butcher. “He gives us freedom to do our jobs.”

“If we have an idea, it doesn’t get shot down automatically,” said Wise. “If it’s good for the practice, we will try it.”

Optics Plus Vision Center is located at 224 Chestnut St. and is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. They are taking new patients and accept most insurances. They can be contacted at 740-622-1484. Fornara also has an office in Dresden, Tri-Valley Vision, which he visits at least once a week.
