Parade and lighting ceremony planned for Nov. 17

Every year, the annual Miracle on Main Street Christmas Parade gets bigger and better, and this year is no exception.

The Christmas season will kick off in Coshocton on Friday, Nov. 17 with activities planned by Our Town Coshocton and the Coshocton County Commissioners.

The Miracle on Main Street parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. from the fairgrounds and will travel down Seventh Street to Main Street. OTC Committee Member Andi Ellis said 40 participants have already signed up and she expects more before the parade. “Registration can be done on OTC’s website. The cost is $25. Everyone is welcome. We only ask that there be no live Santas, as he will be arriving in the last fire truck of the parade. And that no one throws candy from the parade. Please have people walking to pass out candy to the kids. We do this for the safety of the children – we don’t want anyone getting hurt.”

Rhoda Warnock, another OTC member, said that the evening’s activities are only getting started with the parade. “After the parade, on the court square, we will be lighting Coshocton’s Christmas tree. There will be cookies and hot chocolate.  Ridgewood High School choir will be singing Christmas Carols and Santa will be available to meet with the children.”

Warnock said the tree was donated by Mike Parsons and Jeff and Sharon Poland. Cookies will be provided by Coshocton Regional Medical Center and Coffee Connections. The Junior Women’s Club will be providing the hot chocolate. “We would love it if the community joined in with the Christmas carols, too.”

After the Christmas tree lighting, the Coshocton County Commissioners will take the stage to light up the courthouse with a music and light show. It is planned that the light and music show will be presented several evenings a week throughout the Christmas season.

If the weather is bad that evening, Santa will be available to meet children inside at a location to be determined later.
