Pizza Depot Plus opens on Hickory Street

| April 10, 2025

The Coshocton County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting on April 9 to celebrate the opening of Pizza Depot Plus in the former Coshocton Train Depot on Hickory Street.

The interior looks frozen in time with the original tile floor, original doors, walls and some of the furniture. Owners, Jai and Sandy Ungurean, which includes two Sandy’s, wife and mother are both named Sandy, have put a lot of work into restoring the depot to look as much like the original as possible.

“The restoration took a couple years.” Jai said. “All of the floors are original, the doors are all original, but the kitchen is all new. We redid the parking lot with concrete. We like all original stuff so we put the American Artworks stuff on the walls as well as photographs of the original depot. This building took about three years of begging and about two years of paperwork because the building was owned by the state and conjoined with the railroad. We had a pretty good in with the railroad because they hauled coal for us. We used to be in the coal business with Oxford Mining and with that established relationship they were willing to trade the building across the street, formerly Shaw Barton’s, for this one. It’s a nice building and we liked being in the restaurant business so we decided on something where anyone in Coshocton could come and afford to eat here.  We put in the drive thru window so the people who didn’t want to get out of their car and come in could call in an order and pick it up at the window.”

Chamber of Commerce executive director Amy Crown said, “Congratulations to Jai and Sandy Ungurean. This has been a several year commitment. The building looks fabulous. We can’t wait to try the food. On behalf of the Coshocton County Chamber of Commerce, thank you for your investment, thank you for your employees. The building is incredible. The restoration efforts here are just fantastic and the menu looks amazing. I can’t wait to come and eat here. Congratulations and thank you for your investment in Coshocton downtown.”

Mayor Mark Mills said, “This is a beautiful renovation. I know some people may say we don’t need another pizza shop, but we don’t need another empty building. Thank you and Jai says, it’s not just pizza shop. That’s where the plus comes from. I can’t tell you about it, you have got to come here. The place is beautiful. ”
