Public gathers health, safety and wellness info at expo
COSHOCTON – A steady flow of people browsed through the booths at the Health, Safety and Wellness Expo on Jan. 21 at Kids America.
“We had tons and tons of good stuff here,” said Amy Stockdale, director of the Coshocton County Chamber of Commerce. “There were 45 booths plus several set up by the hospital.”
The health expo is an annual event sponsored by the chamber of commerce, Coshocton Regional Medical Center and the chamber’s safety council.
One of the booth’s set up by the hospital was manned by its cardiac rehab staff where they had people use a special elliptical and showed them what their heart rate was before and after exercise.
“We are teaching them about the benefits of exercise and about their heart rates,” said Megan Shrimplin from the hospital.
She explained that the elliptical is one way they could help patients recover from a cardiac event such as open heart surgery.
One of the people at the expo who gave the machine a try was Jim Mercer.
“I wanted to see the benefits of this and how my heart rate went up with exercise,” he said.
Stockdale was really impressed with the way everything flowed at the expo this year and how people were able to work their way through all the booths.
“People were able to take their time to talk and go back if they wanted to so they could learn all they needed to learn,” she said.
