Public hearing held on sales tax increase

COSHOCTON – The Coshocton County Commissioners held a public hearing at their July 24 meeting for the purpose of the discussing the half percent sales tax.

No one attended the hearing and the commissioners moved on to approve a motion to sign Resolution 2019-050 to continue the increase in the rate of the sales tax pursuant to ORC. 5739.026 and use taxes pursuant to ORC. 5741.023 by half percent (one half of one percent) and a motion to sign Resolution 2019-051 to continue the increase in the rate of the sales tax pursuant to ORC. 5739.026 by half  percent (one half of one percent).

“This will be the third renewal of this five year tax that county commissioners are able to put on themselves,” said Commissioners Curtis Lee. “Last year it generated 1.8 million.”

The tax will go into effect Jan. 1, 2020.

During the meeting the commissioners also:

  • Requested a motion to sign a contractor’s application for payment in the amount of $19,964 for United Survey, Inc. for the B-X-17-1AP-1, City of Coshocton, Chestnut Street Sanitary Sewer Project.
  • Requested a motion to sign a request for payment and status of funds report for Grant B-C17-1AP-2 in the amount of $15,000 as requested by John Cleek, CDC of Ohio.
  • Requested a motion to sign a request for payment and status of funds report for Grant B-X17-1AP-1 in the amount of $19,964 as requested by John Cleek, CDC of Ohio.
  • Received the dog wardens report for the week ending July 22, with 10 dogs picked up by the warden, one dog brought in as a stray, 21 dog licenses sold, seven late fees paid, 12 dogs sold, six dogs redeemed, five dogs per owner surrender, $35 in boarding fees collected, 12 citations issued, 30 calls handled for a total of $761 in fees collected.
