Renate Walburga (Haas) Hettinger

Renate Walburga (Haas) Hettinger, 86, formerly of Warsaw and Coshocton, died Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at SharonBrooke Assisted Living in Newark.

She was born Sept. 13, 1937 in Augsburg, Germany to the late Jakob and Walburga (Stiebert) Haas. She married her husband of 65 years, Lawrence David Hettinger, on March 31, 1958. He preceded her in death April 30, 2023. She was a member of The Grail Foundation, worked as a nurse and an EMT at one time, and practiced holistic healing and reflexology. She enjoyed ceramics, painting, calligraphy, and was a seamstress known for making many handmade German festival and ceremonial dresses.

Renate is survived by five children, Lawrence D. (Brooke) Hettinger, Jr. of Virginia, Glenn (Patty) Hettinger of Columbus, Carolyn (Todd) Strayer of Columbus, Dean (Jennifer) Hettinger of Warsaw, and Deborah (Tony) Zerkle of Rushville; fifteen grandchildren, Theresa (John) Dlugopolsky, David (Christina) Hettinger, Christine (Kelly) Garfield, Michael Hettinger, Jessica (Deon) Norton, Danielle (Tony) Jack, Alex (Dani) Hettinger, Alyssa (Brandon) Lepp, Lauren Booth, Nathan (Casey) Strayer, Madelyn Strayer, Lillian Strayer, Evelyn Strayer, Bailey Hettinger, and Owen Hettinger; sixteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Anneliese Marvar of Cleveland, and Gerda Hronowski of Virginia; several nieces and nephews; and a former son-in-law, Joseph McBride.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia (Hettinger) McBride; four brothers, Otto, Ernst, Werner, and Willi Haas; and a sister, Elvira Spindler.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024 at Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw, with Mr. Joseph Oluwafemi Badaki officiating. Burial will follow in Valley View Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5th, as well as one hour prior to service time at the funeral home on Saturday. www.fischerfuneralhome.com
