Richard Schlarb

Richard Schlarb, 88, of Newcomerstown passed away at Oak Pointe Nursing Home in Baltic on Tuesday December 1, 2020.

He was born in Newcomerstown on July 16, 1932 to the late Clarence and Clara (Brown) Schlarb.  Richard served in the U.S. Army overseas during the Korean Conflict.

Richard was a very active lifelong member of the Renner’s United Church of Christ.  He was an Elder, Deacon, and Past President of Renner’s Church Council, and he also taught Sunday School for 63 years.  Richard loved singing in the choir and helping in anyway he could at the church.

He was a lifelong farmer, worked at Stone Creek Brickyard, Stone Container, Clow’s, and retired from Gencorp in Newcomerstown.  Richard also treasured his time with his family, the outdoors, hunting and trapping racoons, and he was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes.

He is survived by his daughter Debbie (Don) McVay of West Lafayette; son Dale (Kim) Schlarb of Newcomerstown; grandchildren Tricia (Jamey) Rismiller, Troy (Jennifer) Adams, Trent (Shayla Guilliams) Adams, Richard (Sabrina) Popadak, Erin (Leonard) Zetty, Clinton Schlarb, and Alyssia (Brenden Miller) Goist; great-grandchildren Olivia, Elliana, and Cohen Adams, Cooper Adams, Nora Popadak, Lily and Kail Zetty, Maci Goist and Mickell Miller; two sisters Patty Conway of Cleveland, TN and Linda (Galen) Honabarger of Keene; one brother Robert (Martha) Schlarb of Newcomewstown; several nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, June Schlarb, whom he married June 9, 1956, June passed away on October 2, 2014; a brother Clarence Schlarb and sister Donna Griffith.

Friends may call at the Renner’s St. Paul United Church of Christ, 7620 Renner Rd SW, Fresno, OH 43824 on Saturday December 5, 2020 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM where a funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM with Pastor Jim Henninger officiating.  Burial will follow at Renner’s Cemetery with Coshocton County Veterans Honor Guard performing military honors.

Due to COVID-19, attendees coming to the church are required to wear their own face masks.
