Ridgewood approves and distributes reopening plan

The Ridgewood Local Board of Education met on July 17.

Superintendent Mike Masloski announced commendations to all the summer employees for their hard work in the buildings and grounds this summer; The Block R organization for their hard work and dedication to the new athletic facility; and thanking the great staff and people of the Ridgewood Local School District for giving 100 percent all the time to help keep Ridgewood strong.

A Ridgewood Local School District information notice for the reopening of school was presented to the board.  It was developed by Haley Evans for the district and will be distributed to the public.

The Treasurer’s report by Jay Tingle was given and approved.  A donation from the United Way to the Cafeteria Fund for $5,000 was approved.

Masloski presented the re-opening, and remote learning plans for the 2020/2021 school year. These plans will be sent to district parents and posted on the Ridgewood Local School District website.  The first day of school for students is planned for Monday, Aug. 31, but could be subject to change if directed by the Governor or Department of Health.  The East Central Ohio ESC was approved for OT and audiology services for the 2020/2021 school year.

The following supplemental contracts were approved:  John Slusser, head football;  Chad Lahna, Chris Cabot, and Nate Carpenter, assistant football;  Dusty Shroyer and Todd Cabot, freshman football;  Travis Simmons, eighth grade football;  Ryan Lowe, seventh grade football;  Devon Lusk, RMS assistant football;  John Lindig, jazz band, marching band, concert band and RMS Band; Brenda McCoy, head volleyball;  D.J. Griffith, JV volleyball; Cassandra Webster, freshmen volleyball; Chelsie Tolliver, eighth grade volleyball;  Steffinee Powers, seventh grade volleyball; Wendy Croy, head cross country; Lori Buchanan, assistant cross country; Tim Tubbs, head soccer; Jeff Eveland, assistant soccer; Dick Reveal, RMS Golf;  Heather Kinsey, head cheerleading advisor; and Kim Baker, RMS Cheerleading.  The following volunteer coaches were approved: Jason Lahna, Jason Prater, Chad Massie, Ryan Gress, Sam Carpenter, Caleb Tingle, and Chad Carroll, football; Dan Smith, volleyball; Bethanie Helmick, band; and Dick Reveal, RHS Girls golf.  Approved for extended service for the 2020/2021 school year included: Jill Bryan, vocational home economics – 10 days;  Jamie Davis, speech – 10 days;  Sue Davis, vocational ag. – 60 days;  Leslie Dulgar, RMS Guidance – 10 days;  Stacy Ionno RHS Guidance – 20 days; John Lindig, music – 10 days;  Mike Ondayko, business/computer – 10 days; and Logan Pyers, vocational ag. – 60 days.

A resolution for seventh and eighth grade of intent to not provide career tech education was presented and approved.

The classified sub rate was raised to $10/hr for classified members effective July 1, and approved as presented. The superintendent was approved to advertise for tire and fuel bids for the 2020/2021 school year.

The next regular board of education meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 17, at Ridgewood Elementary in the cafeteria.
