River View advances 10 swimmers

The Ohio High School Athletic Association’s East District Sectional Tournament Swim Meet was held at Steubenville High School on Feb. 10. The River View girls placed second overall out of 21 schools, advancing six swimmers to the district tournament, while the boys placed seventh out of 20, qualifying four swimmers for the district meet.

District qualifiers for the girls include Ally Fischer (two individual events, two relays), Riley Gottardi (two individuals, two relays), Lily Grewell (two individuals, two relays), Britany Hammond (relay), Kam McGinnis (relay), and Kynsingten McMasters (individual). Qualifiers for the boys are Jamison Adams (individual, two relays), Colin Addy (two individuals, two relays), JT Allison (individual, two relays), and Kyle Roach (two relays).

The Black Bears medaled in eight events. For the girls, the 200 yard medley relay of Ally Fischer, Lily Grewell, Riley Gottardi, and Kam McGinnis was second (2:08.47); the 400 freestyle relay of Gottardi, Britany Hammond, Grewell, and Fischer was second (4:15.34); Gottardi won the 100 backstroke (1:09.60), and was third in the 100 butterfly (1:08.37); Fischer was second in the 100 back (1:10.22); and Grewell was third in the 100 Breaststroke (1:18.25).

Medalists for the boys include the third place 200 free relay of Kyle Roach, JT Allison, Jamison Adams, and Colin Addy (1:44.83), and Addy was second in the 50 free (22.82), and third in the 100 free (50.86).

Additionally scoring in girls’ events were, the 200 free relay of Hammond, Atyana Milici, Kynsingten McMasters, and McGinnis was seventh (2:03.02); Grewell was fourth (2:36.15), Fischer fifth (2:38.06), and McMasters eighth (2:48.52) in the 200 individual medley; Hammond was eighth (30.62), McGinnis ninth (30.66), and Chloee Adams 16th (31.43) in the 50 free; McMasters was sixth (1:24.61), and C. Adams 16th (1:34.51) in the 100 breast; Hammond was seventh (1:06.84) in the 100 free; and Ava Lewis was 11th (6:46.99) in the 500 free, and 14th (2:34.53) in the 200 free.

The boys also earned points from the fifth place (4:00.41) 400 free relay of Roach, Allison, J. Adams, and Addy; J. Adams, fourth in the 100 back (1:03.49), and 14th in the 100 free (57.62); and Allison, seventh (6:23.18) in the 500 free.
