River View Board meets

WARSAW – The River View Board of Education met May 10 and board members approved the following items:

– Approved the recommendation to accept foreign exchange student Kevin Lobo Lopez from Bolivia for the 2018 – 2019 school year, host family will be Jason and Jen Robinson.

– Approved the donation to First Step, F.V.I.S., Inc. of $1,000 for the Youth Education/Prevention program for the 2018 – 2019 school year.

– Approved the field experience and student teaching agreement with Mount Vernon Nazarene University for the 2018 – 2019 school year as submitted.

– Approved the College Credit Plus Memorandum of Understanding from Columbus State Community College regarding the school district book process for the 2018 – 2019 school year as submitted.

– Approved resolution 2018 – 21 authorizing the following change in total instructional hours in the 2017 – 2018 school year due to calamity hours. High school/junior high instructional hours shall be 1012 hours (state minimum is 1001); elementary instructional hours shall be 927 hours (state minimum is 910).

– Approved the request from Coach Dave Kridler to take girls soccer team to Mohican State Park on July 18, for annual hiking/bonding trip.

– Approved the recommendation of Rod Lindsey, ticket manager for the 2018 – 2019 school year.

– Approved the following recommendation for coaching positions for the 2018 – 2019 school year:

Varsity Asst. Boys Basketball Bobby Ball; JV Boys Basketball Gary Giffin; Eighth Grade Boys Basketball Denny Holt; and Seventh Grade Boys Basketball Mike Albertson.

– Approved the retirement of Betty Fender, Warsaw teacher, effective May 31.

– Approved the resignation of Lin Hamric, athletic secretary/inventory, effective July 31.

– Approved the recommendation to hire Sheri Fortune for the position of elementary principal at Union Elementary for the 2018 – 2019 school year.

– Approved the recommendation to hire Eden Lauffer as district school psychologist for the 2018 – 2019 school year with a 219 day contract; and that the district pay a onetime fee of 20 percent of salary to release us from the contract with The Stepping Stones Group.

– Approved the recommendation to hire Connie Johnson as inventory clerk for the 2018 – 2019 school year at a stipend of $6,000.

– Approved the recommendation to change the contract of Julie Richard, special programs secretary, from a 206 day contract to a 260 day contract, effective July 1.

– Approved the recommendation to hire Denise Emig as high school attendance/athletic secretary for the 2018 – 2019 school year.

– Approved the recommendation to add Todd Liberatore as summer custodial help for 2018.

– Approved the recommendation for Katie Haumschild, high school secretary, to work in high school office three days per week beginning the week of June 11 through week of July 30.

– Approved the request for maternity leave for Conesville teacher starting on approximately May 30, and ending on Aug. 31.

– Approved the request for a two month medical leave of absence for high school food service employee.

– Approved the request for a medical leave of absence for Keene food service employee, effective from January 2018 to June 1, 2018.

– Approved the recommendation to change the current contract days of Sharon Wachtel from 180 days to 170 days for the 2018 – 2019 school year.

– Approved the recommendation to pay eligible bus drivers $65 for having buses plugged in during the 2017 – 2018 winter, eligible drivers list submitted.

– Approved the recommendation to hire Arthur Ford and Michelle Dickerson as substitute bus drivers. (pending completion of background check, all paperwork and training)
