River View swimmers do well at home meet

River View High School boys and girls varsity swimming hosted swimmers from Athens, New Philadelphia, Mount Vernon, East Knox, and Federal Hocking on Jan. 9, at the Janet Jones Mulligan Natatorium. The Black Bears were first overall in combined team scores, and the boys defeated all five teams while also setting a new school record in a relay event.

The 200 free relay of Reas Pepper, Brayden Karr, Coen Bible, and JT Roberts won with a new record time of 1:45.59 (previously 1:45.79 held by the relay of Nate Cooper, Caleb Fischer, RJ Hammond, and Jacob Mitchell). Also winning relay events for the boys was the 200 medley group of Luke Massie, Zachariah Phillips, Cole Tatro, and JT Roberts (2:01.59), and the 400 free of Bible, Brady Philabaum, Tatro, and Pepper (4:07.82).

In individual events, Tatro won the 200 IM (2:38.62), and was second in the 100 fly (1:07.96). Pepper won the 50 free (26.32), and the 100 free (58.68). Massie won the 100 back (1:09.19), and was second in the 200 IM (2:41.87). Karr won the 100 breast (1:18.83), with Phillips placing (1:21.16). Philabaum was second in the 100 free (1:02.82), with Malek Better third (1:05.83). Bible was second in the 200 free (2:17.27), and Roberts was third in the 100 back (1:13.46).

In the girls’ relay events, the 200 medley group of Raychel Smalley, Britton McCoy, Carolyn Cox, and Mary Ann Lozowski placed third (2:32.33), and the 200 free of Cox, Michaela White, Lozowski, and Smalley finished third (2:15.93).

Individually for the girls, Cox placed third in the 50 free (32.00), and Lozowski was third in the 400 free (6:03.13).
