River View’s Werntz signs to play softball at Glenville State

WARSAW – Softball has always been Peyton Werntz’s passion.
“It’s my thing,” she said. “I started with tee-ball when I was 4-years-old.”
Now Werntz will get to continue enjoying her passion on the college level.
“I’m really excited by how everything is turning out,” she said.
The River View High School senior signed her letter of intent on Jan. 24 to play softball at DII Glenville State in West Virginia. She celebrated the occasion with family and friends in the library at RVHS.
“I’m super excited for her,” said Nikole Werntz, Peyton’s mother. “She worked really hard to get to this point. I’m glad to see her make a decision. She’s excited and we are excited for her.”
Peyton said she liked the small town feel of Glenville State and how she felt when she walked on campus.
“I felt like I fit there,” she said.
Peyton pitches and plays first base.
“She’s a very hard worker, very dedicated and a competitor,” said Bonnie Infante, River View’s softball coach.
Peyton’s father Chris Werntz has enjoyed watching her persevere over the years.
“She’s a competitor, but she’s also a great teammate,” Chris said. “She’s always there for her teammates.”
He was impressed with the coaching staff at Glenville State.
“They told her they were excited to have her, but were also upfront with her,” Chris said. “That’s important. Her mom and I always told her no one player is bigger than the team. It’s nice to see that they seem to embrace that too.”
Peyton is planning on majoring in marketing and getting a minor in graphic design.
