Road Runner’s finish fifth at Stingrays Showcase
COSHOCTON – The Road Runner Elite 18U travel softball team went 5-2 and finished fifth in the platinum division of the Stingrays Showcase Tournament at Beekman Fields on the OSU campus.
In the first pool game against Steel City Select, Janessa Dawson (Tri-Valley) allowed only one single to earn the 4-2 win in relief of Riley Conkle (Coshocton). Hannah Worthington (Tri-Valley) rapped a two run double to lead the offense. Taylor Gallentine (St. Clairsville) had an RBI double, Dawson an RBI single and Gina Fogle (Toronto/Wheeling Jesuit) had two singles.
The Indiana Shockwave allowed the Runners only three scattered hits to take a 9-0 victory in the second pool game. Fogle hit a double and Dawson and Madison Johnson (John Glenn) each had a single. Darian Tupuola (Philo) took the loss on the mound.
The team rebounded in the third pool game against a tough Michigan Lookouts team Friday night. Dawson got the complete game, 3-2 victory on the mound. Claire Warschauer (River View) ripped an RBI double and scored, Conkle had two singles, an RBI and scored a run, and Gallentine had two singles to lead the team at the plate.
In the final pool game Saturday, Dawson again picked up the 8-7 win in relief of Tupuola against the PA Lady Knights. Kendyl Hatfield (John Glenn/Marietta) scored three runs with an RBI and a stolen base, Fogle had two singles with two RBI’s, and Conkle two singles and an RBI. Kieran Johnson (Wheeling Park) and Warschauer each had RBI singles and Worthington singled, stole a base and scored a run.
On Saturday night, the team began single elimination bracket play in the Platinum division. The Runners faced the Indiana Catz and walked away with a 4-3 victory as Dawson got the complete game win on the mound. Gallentine hit a double, single and scored a run, Madison Johnson had an RBI single, Conkle had a single and an RBI and Lauren Krystek (River View/Air Force) scored two runs to lead the offense.
Continuing bracket play on Sunday, the Runners bested the Maryland Stars 9-3 as Dawson picked up her fifth win of the weekend on the mound. Kieran Johnson had two RBI’s with a double, Gallentine an RBI with a double and single, Hatfield an RBI with a double, Conkle two RBI’s with a single and sacrifice, and Worthington and Madison Johnson each had RBI singles. Krystek scored her seventh and eighth runs of the weekend. In the quarter finals, the team faced a great Indiana Gators team with their pitcher headed to Florida State. Gallentine rapped an RBI double and a single and Worthington had a double and scored. Warschauer, Conkle and Fogle all had singles. Tupuola took the 9-1 loss on the mound.
