RV boys second at SEOSL Championship

River View High School was among the 17 schools that competed in the 2023 South Eastern Ohio Swim League Championship Meet on Feb. 4 at Kenyon College. The Black Bears placed second overall behind Athens in boys’ competition, while the girls placed fifth overall.

Points were awarded through 10th place in both individual and relay events, and medalists honors to the top three. The Black Bears tallied 122 points on the day in the boys’ events. Colin Addy was the leading scorer with 42 points, followed by Jonathon Vu with 32, while the girls scored a total of 78, led by Ally Fischer with 23.5, followed by Kynsingten McMasters with 20.5.

Medaling in relay events for the boys was the group of Jonathon Vu, Carter Knicely, Jesse Shoemaker, and Colin Addy who won the 200 freestyles (1:36.52) and finished second in the 400 free (3:40.02). Individually, Addy won the 50 free (22.68), and finished third in the 100 free (51.31), while Vu placed second in the 200 free (2:03.66) and third in the 100 butterfly (1:00.23). Additional scorers include the eighth-place medley relay of Knicely, Jamison Adams, Gage Wright, and Cam Mobley (2:11.68), Shoemaker, sixth in the 100 free (57.12) and 10th in the 200 free (2.11.80), Knicely, sixth in the 50 free (25.31), Adams, sixth in the 100 backstroke (1:09.72), and Wright, ninth in the 500 free (7:22.17).

Scoring in girls’ events, the relay of Kam McGinnis, Kynsingten McMasters, Piper Andrews, and Ally Fischer were fifth in both the 200 free (1:59.64) and the 400 free relay (4:34.01), and the group of Andrews, McMasters, Ava Lewis, and McGinnis was seventh in the 200 medley (2:24.92). Fischer was fourth in the 100 fly (1:10) and sixth in the 200 free (2:21.69), Lewis was fifth in the 500 free (7:08.46), McMasters was fifth in the 100 breaststroke (1:22.23), and Olivia Avalle was 10th in the 200 individual medley (3:40.20).

The Bears will swim at the OHSAA Sectional Tournament at Steubenville on Saturday, Feb. 11.
