RVHS boys place second at sectionals

The River View swim teams competed in the Ohio High School Athletic Association East/Southeast Sectional Tournament at Steubenville High School on Feb. 8.

The boys placed second overall out of 20 schools, and the girls placed sixth out of 16. The Black Bears advanced 17 total swimmers to the District Meet at Ohio State on Feb. 12.

Qualifying in individual events for the district meet on the boys’ team was Reas Pepper, second in both the 50 (23.49) and the 100 Freestyle (51.83). Cole Tatro was fourth (2:17.86) in the 200 Individual Medley and fifth (59.76) in the 100 Butterfly. JT Roberts was fifth (23.97) in the 50, and ninth (54.46) in the 100 Free. Coen Bible was sixth (24.16) in the 50 and eighth (53.91) in the 100 Free. Brayden Karr was eighth (1:03.19) in both the 100 Fly and 100 Breaststroke (1:10.07). Luke Massie was seventh (1:02.91) in the 100 Backstroke and ninth (2:23.93) in the 200 IM. Brady Philabaum was fifth (1:01.50) in the 100 Back. Lincoln Shroyer was 10th (24.66) in the 50 Free. Ahmed Perez was 11th (5:57.13) in the 500 Free.

In relays, the 200 Free of Pepper, Karr, Shroyer, and Roberts placed second (1:34.42), the 400 Free of Bible, Philabaum, Tatro, and Pepper placed second (3:33.93), and the 200 Medley of Philabaum, Karr, Tatro, and Roberts placed third (1:49.22).

For the River View girls, Berta Vidal won the 200 IM (2:15.99) and placed third in the 100 Back (1:01.52). Lindsey Ashcraft was sixth (1:16.35) in the 100 Breast, and eighth (1:10.18) in the 100 Fly. The 200 Free Relay of Vidal, Ashcraft, Raychel Smalley, and Michaela White was third (1:53.72). The 200 Medley of Vidal, Aliya Stevens, Ashcraft, and Smalley was seventh (2:05.98) and the 400 Free group of MaryAnn Lozowski, White, Katie Hardesty, and Rachel Vandenbark was eighth (4:26.84).
