RVHS relay team sets record

On Jan. 22, 17 schools competed in the annual River View Swimming Invitational at the Janet Jones Mulligan Natatorium. The Black Bears boys’ team placed first overall and had a record-breaking relay time, while the girls finished in fourth place. The Black Bears were second overall in combined team scores at 472.50, behind Tri Valley at 519.

The boys’ 200 Freestyle relay group of Zachariah Phillips, Jamal Watts, Cole Tatro, and Coen Bible won the event with a new school record time of 1:43.36 eclipsing the previous best of 1:44.68 held by Phillips, Reas Pepper, Brayden Karr, and JT Roberts. Additional event winners and medalists in the boys’ events included the first place 200 Medley relay of Phillips, Collin Addy, Jonathon Vu, and Jesse Shoemaker (2:05.72), the first place 400 Free relay of Watts, Addy, Tatro, and Bible (4:09.55), the second place 200 Free relay of Shoemaker, Jamison Adams, Vu, and Addy (1:53.20), Bible, second place in both the 200 Free (2:13.61) and the 100 Free (58.12), Tatro, second in both the 200 Individual Medley (2:29.20) and the 100 Butterfly (1:03.83), Phillips, second in both the 50 Free (25.93) the 100 Backstroke (1:10.61), Watts, third in both the 50 Free (26.10) and the 100 Free (59.23), Vu, third in the 100 Fly (1:14.27), and Adams, third in the 100 Back (1:20.91).

Also scoring points for the boys’ team were the sixth place 400 Free relay of Adams, Valesquez Bernardo, N. Phillips, and Marcos Barbe (5:11), the seventh place 200 Free relay of N. Phillips, Gage Wright, Bernardo, and Barbe (2:12.05), Addy, fourth in the 50 Free (26.46), Vu, sixth in the 400 Free (5:28.92), Shoemaker, 10th in the 100 Free (1:07.82) and 11th in the 50 Free (29.47), Nick Phillips, 11th in the 200 Free (3:01.62), Bernardo, 11th in the 100 Breast (1:39.90), and Adams, 12th in the 50 Free (29.48).

Medalists for the Bears on the girls’ team were the third place 400 Free relay of Michaela White, Britton McCoy, Ally Fischer, and Emily Williams (5:21.54).

Also scoring in relay events was the fourth place 400 Free group of Ava Lewis, Courtney Bookless, Kam McGinnis, and Kynsington McMasters (5:37.69), the fifth place 200 Free group Williams, Bookless, White, and Fischer (2:18.30), the seventh place Medley group of Bookless, McCoy, Fischer, and Williams (2:37.04), and the eighth place 200 Free relay group of McGinnis, Taryn Tumblin, McMasters, and Lewis (2:26.51).

In individual events, the girls got points from McCoy, fourth in the 200 IM (3:18) and sixth in the 100 Breast (1:37.03), Fischer, fourth in the 100 Fly (1:26.24), McMasters, seventh in the Breast (1:38.75) and 11th in the 200 Free (3:02.73), Lewis, seventh (6:30.24) and White, eighth (6:32.69) in the 400 Free, Williams, 10th (1:44.75) and McGinnis, 11th (1:53.50) in the 100 Fly, Tumblin, 11th in the 100 Breast (1:47.40), and Alexa Rodriguez, 13th in the 100 Back (1:44.97).
