RVHS swimmers compete in back to back meets

WARSAW – River View High School’s swim teams had a busy weekend.

On Friday, Jan. 13 they competed in the ECOL Swim Meet at Coshocton High School and were on the road again Saturday, Jan. 14 for the Northridge Swimming Invite.

The Viking Classic was held at New Albany High School where the girls placed seventh out of 18 teams, while the boys placed fourth out of 16 overall.

The Black Bears had several medalists at the meet, including the relay team of Nate Cooper, Caleb Fischer, Jake Mitchell, and RJ Hammond who were second (1:50.63) in the 200 medley, and third (1:38.74) in the 200 Free. Cooper was also second (1:00.34) in the 100 back, and third (24.19) in the 50 free, Mitchell was third (55.31) in the 100 free, and Fischer was third (1:09.54) in the 100 breast.

Several swimmers earned points for both teams. Shawna Shroyer was 12th in the 200 free (2:23.86), Lindsey Ashcraft was sixth in the IM (2:30.87), Jesse Vandenbark was seventh (28.17), and Josie Fornara 15th (30.18) in the 50 free, Kenzie Hudson was 12th (1:24.10), and Kyara Roberts 13th (1:32.52) in the 100 fly, Emily Jacobs was 15th (7:17.14) in the 500 free, Shroyer was 12th (1:14.31), and Hudson 18th (1:21.77) in the 100 back, Ashcraft was fourth (1:18.68), and Kristian Meek 16th (1:32.64) in the 100 breast, the Medley Relay of Shroyer, Ashcraft, Fornara, and Vandenbark was eighth (2:10.70), the 200 free relay Vandenbark, Fornara, Shroyer, and Ashcraft was fifth (1:54.30), and the 400 free relay of Hudson, Vandenbark, Jacobs, and Fornara was eighth (4:40.78) on the girls side.

Scoring additional points for the boys, Fischer was eight (2:24.26), and Mitchell ninth (2:26.00) in the 200 IM, Xavier Lewis was 13th (1:16.49) in the 100 fly and 13th (1:19.21) in the 100 breast, Dylan Harsh was 10th (6:36.76) in the 500 free, Lane Wahl was 13th (1:20.690) in the 100 back, and the 400 free relay of Zared Tumblin, Trase Berry, Harsh, and Hammond was eighth (4:14.25).

At the East Central Ohio League Meet River View’s boys and girls’ teams both finished third overall and the Coshocton girls finished fifth while the boys placed seventh.

Points were awarded for the top six places in each event. Scoring for the Black Bears on the girls side, Lindsey Ashcraft was fourth (2:49.84), and Shawna Shroyer fifth (2:56.14) in the 200 IM, Jesse Vandenbark was sixth (32.38) in the 50 free, Ashcraft was second (1:24.01) in the 100 breast, the 200 Medley Relay of Shroyer, Ashcraft, Kenzie Hudson, and Josie Fornara was third (2:31.14), the 200 free relay of Ashcraft, Fornara, Vandenbark, and Shroyer was third (2:08.24), and the 400 free relay of Vandenbark, Learke Nordentoft, Emily Jacobs, and Hudson was fourth (5:18.15).

For the River View boys, Nate Cooper was fourth (2:37.16) in the 200 IM, Jake Mitchell was third (26.81), and RJ Hammond fifth (28.08) in the 50 Free, Mitchell was second (1:07.80), and Caleb Fischer fifth (1:10.78) in the 100 butterfly, Cooper was third (1:07.65) in the 100 backstroke, Fischer was second (1:15.35) in the 100 breaststroke, the 200 medley relay of Cooper, Fischer, Mitchell, and Hammond was third (2:01.94), the 200 free relay of Cooper, Fischer, Hammond, and Mitchell was second (1:48.87), and the 400 free relay of Dylan Harsh, Trase Berry, Xavier Lewis, and Zared Tumblin was fourth (4:52.04).

For the Coshocton girls, Emily Casey was fifth (1:20.21) in the 100 Fly, and the relay of Reanna Ackley, Carlie Williams, Bella Hall, and Casey was fifth (2:22.03) in the 200, and 3rd (5:18.04) in the 400. Corban Maust placed fourth (1:04.32) in the 100 free for the Redskins boys.
