‘Save Hamlet’ to open at Jill Collins Performing Arts Center

| January 2, 2025

Get ready to experience Shakespeare like never before. Ridgewood High School is bringing a hilarious and irreverent twist to the Bard’s classic tragedy Hamlet with the uproarious comedy Save Hamlet, written by Mark Levine. The play will be performed at the Jill Collins Performing Arts Center on Friday, Jan. 17, 2025, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5.

A clever parody that pokes fun at the iconic lines, dramatic moments, and dark themes of the original Hamlet, Save Hamlet turns the traditional tragedy into a wild rollercoaster of laughs. The play has been described as “a riotous, wisecracking romp that takes the audience on a comedic ride through one of Shakespeare’s most famous works.”

Save Hamlet follows the basic plot of the original tragedy but with a twist – the background characters wise up, take the serious stuff, and turn it upside down for a happy ending. It is filled with modern-day humor, quirky characters, and ridiculous scenarios that will have you rolling in the aisles. From the moment the ghost of King Hamlet appears on stage with an unexpected sense of humor to the hilariously awkward antics of Prince Hamlet himself, this show is anything but traditional.

The show is not just for fans of Shakespeare. This is a family show that everyone will find plenty to love, from the witty dialogue to the playful interactions between characters that keep the laughs coming. Save Hamlet turns the traditional tragedy into an unforgettable comedy.

Whether you’re a fan of the original Hamlet or have never heard of Shakespeare, this show promises something for everyone. The perfect way to kick off the new year, Save Hamlet is sure to be a real gem of a production. Tickets will be available at the door.
