Senior Center hosts ballroom dance
COSHOCTON – The sound of big band music was heard at the senior center on Saturday night, March 25, as couples from two ballroom dancing groups merged together on the dance floor and waltzed to the music of Hi-Fi Rendezvous. This was the second dance the senior center had, the first one being last Christmas. Jamie Williams, co-director at the senior center, said they will probably continue to have ballroom dances as long as there is an interest.
“I was pretty impressed by their skill,” she said about the dancers. “They’re really good. What I love about it is they smile at each other and they enjoy what they’re doing and enjoy being with each other. We really enjoy the music and watching the dancers.”
The two dancing groups that night at the center were dancers from Grace United Methodist Church and Roscoe United Methodist Church.
“At Grace, there are 12 couples who have never danced before,” said Jeanie Stokes, instructor at Grace UMC. “The older you get, the better it is to do something like this. We like the big band music and the gracefulness of this kind of music.”
She also said she is proud of her dancers.
“I’m very proud of all these people because, never having danced before, they are doing great,” she said.
Kevin and Holli Rainwater, who were in attendance that night, have been dancing since January 2009.
“I like to dance to any type of music,” said Holli. “It’s something my husband and I can do together. It’s fun. I knew some of the dancers before joining and some I didn’t. It’s just a whole new group of friends. When you go out dancing, it seems all is right with the world.”
