Shelby Theatres to show new Star Wars movie starting this Thursday

| December 15, 2015

COSHOCTON – Star Wars fans all over the country are gearing up for the release of the next movie in the Star Wars saga, “The Force Awakens”. The movie, set for its debut on Thursday, Dec. 17, will be released locally at Shelby Theatres beginning at 7:30 p.m. that night with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.

However, most fans won’t be waiting until 6:30 p.m. to arrive. Jodi Lowe, who owns the theatre, said that she has no doubt that fans will be arriving in the wee hours of the morning dressed as their favorite Star Wars character.

“It’s fun to see it,” said Lowe. “They really get into it.”

Beginning at 6:30 p.m., the theatre will be having a giveaway. Ticket holders are automatically entered into a drawing. As ticket numbers are called, movie-goers have the opportunity to win life-sized cardboard standees of characters, dolls, shirts, light sabers, water bottles, and many other items, all with a Star Wars theme.

The theatre will be hosting a free showing of the movie on Tuesday, Dec. 22 at 9:15 p.m. Admission to the show is canned food donations, which will be donated to Shepherd’s Christian Assembly. Santa will also be there and kids will be given a wrapped present that they can then donate to the Coshocton County Firefighter’s Toy Chest if they wish.

“If a 14-year-old boy comes and gets a baby doll in his wrapped present, he can donate it to the toy chest,” said Lowe. “I want the older kids who come to feel like they’ve had the opportunity to contribute back to society.”

So far, the theatre has sold more than 150 pre-sale tickets. Pre-sale tickets are $6 and are available at the theatre. “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” will be shown locally for four weeks and is rated PG-13.
