Shirley “Nan” King

Shirley “Nan” King, age 79, of Coshocton, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2024. She was born on September 27, 1944, in Cambridge, Ohio to the late Anna Mae Sarchet.

Shirley graduated from Newcomerstown High School in 1962, and was the first in her family to graduate. On December 26, 1961, she married Thomas King who passed away on December 29, 2016.

She was a longtime JC Penney employee in Zanesville, where she made many friends. Shirley attended Prairie Chapel Church and more recently attended Broadway Globe Methodist Church. She enjoyed traveling through Europe and the US with her husband and family; and was an independent, loving mother who took care of her children when her husband did two tours in Vietnam. She was known for her cake decorating and pies, especially apple pie. Shirley adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who adored her as well. She will be deeply missed by her loving family and friends.

She is survived by her three children, Glenn King of Carson, Nevada, Terri King Prouty of Stone Creek and Gary (Wendi) King of Dresden; four grandchildren, Chris (Kristin) Prouty, Meagan Prouty, Trevor King and Claire King; two great-grandchildren, Thomas and Alice Prouty and siblings, Goldie (Richard) Beitzel, George (Lydia) Alexander, Mary Hahn, Harold (Rena) Alexander and Robert (Ann) Alexander.

She was preceded in death by her mother Anna Mae Sarchet, step-father Ralph Sarchet and her husband Thomas King.

A private service will be held at a later date. Given-Dawson-Paisley Funeral Home is serving the family.
