Shooting reported on Sept. 25 in Roscoe

On Sept. 25, 2021, at approximately 10:57 a.m. the Coshocton County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call in reference to a male subject at Roscoe School, located at 301 North Whitewoman Street, who kicked in a door and entered the building.

Deputies were dispatched to the scene and came into contact with a male suspect inside the building. Deputies then tried to take the suspect into custody and while doing so an altercation between the deputies and the suspect ensued. During the altercation the suspect gained control of a deputies firearm. The suspect continued to resist arrest and pointed the firearm at deputies requiring a deputy to take evasive action and discharged his firearm. Deputies began administering CPR on the suspect until EMS arrived on scene. This male suspect was then transported to Coshocton Regional Medical Center.

The identity of this male was later learned to be 32-year-old Luke J. Longeretta of Coshocton who was later pronounced deceased at Coshocton Regional Medical Center. This incident is being investigated by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation. The deputies involved in this incident were placed on administrative leave and their names will be withheld pending the outcome of this investigation.

Assisting at the scene were Coshocton County EMS, Coshocton County Prosecutors Office, BCI&I, Coshocton County Coroner, Coshocton County React and Princes Wrecker Service.
