River View High School senior Alivia Spaulding signed a letter of intent to play volleyball for Kent State Tuscarawas on Jan. 12 in the library at RVHS.

Alivia said, “I’ve been playing since seventh grade. My grandma got me started. She told me to go to practice and I didn’t really want to at first. We had a good team this year. I feel like I live and breathe volleyball. I am excited to meet all the girls.”

Spaulding plans to study criminal justice and become a probation officer. She chose Kent State Tuscarawas because it is close to home, they have a good record and a good coach.

Grandparents Ruth and Hayden Daliere said, “We are very excited to see her in this new venture.”

“I am very proud of her,” mom, Jaeanna Spaulding said. “All of her work has paid off. She has worked very hard for this, and I am super proud.”

River View’s varsity coach Rose Olinger said, “Alivia has come a very long way in her time at River View in the volleyball program. She has really progressed and become a leader on the court for sure. She is a very strong player; a very hard worker and I am so proud of her for seeking the next level. This was a combination of the academics she was looking for and what they offered was a great fit. I know her teammates are excited as well.”

Kent State volleyball coach Cortney Goodwin said, “We are extremely excited to have Alivia. Last year we were lacking in the middle and this year, we are very fortunate to have a middle coming in who is very talented and is going to help our season. We were one point shy of making the national tournament, finishing ninth in the nation and I think Alivia is going to give us the opportunity to reach that goal. ”

Alivia received her third-year pin for 2022, was 2022 team leader in blocks, Honorable Mention District 5 OHSVCA Division II and 2nd Team MVL.
