Teen dies from injuries sustained in crash
On July 11, 2020 at 6:47 p.m. the sheriff’s office received a call from Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office in reference to a go-kart accident in the 58000 block of County Road 9. They advised that CPR was in progress with a single female patient. Once EMS arrived on scene, they advised that the passenger of the go-kart, Kenslee Brandon, a 14-year-old female from that area, had a pulse and they were requesting a helicopter.
After emergency personnel stabilized Brandon, she was flown by Cleveland Metro Medflight to Akron Children’s Hospital where she later died from injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the go-kart, Dustin Grewell, a 38-year-old Newcomerstown man, stated the two were riding on a go-kart in the field when they attempted to slow down for a turn but the brakes did not work. The go-kart then slid around the curve, rolled onto it’s side and ejected the passenger, Brandon. Neither occupant was wearing seat belts or helmets.
Assisting deputies at the scene was Coshocton County EMS, Newcomerstown Emergency Response Squad (NERS), West Lafayette Fire Department, Coshocton County REACT, Cleveland Metro Medflight and Prince’s Wrecker Service.
