The Alcove Presents ‘Dearly Departed’

MT. VERNON – Two local actors, Susan Gordon and Mickie Galajda, will be performing in the upcoming play ‘Dearly Departed’ at the Alcove Dinner Theater in Mt. Vernon. The show runs Friday and Saturday beginning Oct. 19 through Nov. 10.
It was exactly six years ago that the upstairs Dinner Theatre at The Alcove was exploding in laughter every weekend night when Bruce Jacklin and Company first presented the side-splitting comedy ‘Dearly Departed’ and now it’s back by popular demand. Opening on Oct. 19 and running each Friday and Saturday through Nov. 10, audiences will again have the opportunity to belly laugh their way through the colorful, “redneck” antics of the Turpin family. When the patriarch of the family, Bud Turpin, keels over dead in the first scene, the struggle to get him buried involves the whole clan, including his not-so-grieving widow, Raynelle, who wants to put “Mean and Surly” on the tombstone. In this Blue Collar comedy, the Turpin family proves that living and dying in the South are seldom tidy and always hilarious. Amidst the chaos, the Turpins turn for comfort to their friends and neighbors, an eccentric community of misfits who somehow manage to pull together and help each other through their time of need.
Directed again by Bruce Jacklin, most of the original cast is back in character as they deal with life, death and their own mortality in very unique and uproarious ways. The cast includes Susan Moreland (Raynelle Turpin), Bruce Jacklin (Ray-Bud Turpin), Maureen Browning (Lucille Turpin), Aaron Moreland (Junior Turpin), Wendy Fairchild (Suzanne Turpin), Carrie Swingle (Delightful Turpin), Mickie Galadja (Aunt Marguerite), Matt Starr (Royce), Ruth Frady (Juanita), Richard McKinley (Reverend Hooker), Don Lincicome (Clyde), Sadie Hunter (Nadine), Susan Gordon (Veda), Chuck Ransom (Norvall) and Diane Dingle (Clarisse Talbot). The production crew includes Scott Swingle (Lights/Sound) Ian Ernsberger (Sound design) and Kate Redfield (Stage Manager).
