Theda Jo Jones
Theda Jo Jones passed away peacefully at the Juanita Potts Family Home on January 8, 2024 with her niece, Brenda and caregivers Jan and Deric Potts by her side.
Theda Jo was born to Ruth and Elmer Crater on December 10, 1935 in Coshocton, Ohio.
After graduating from high school, she worked as a telephone operator along with a number of her cousins, then the Coshocton Tribune, and lastly at Sota Technologies. She loved to crochet making doilies of all shapes, sizes and colors. Her extended family members remember her curried beef and spaetzles and apple dumplings for the Crater family gatherings. She loved her angels being surrounded by them on shelves in every room of her home. She always talked about the eagles her brother Gordon sent to her and looked forward to Sunday afternoons playing cards with Mary Lynn and Raymond (and Gordon when he came to visit). She also would tune in on the weekends to watch her great nephew JJ play baseball, even calling him after the games to tell him he played good. She spent a lot of time with Mary Lynn, Phyllis and Sharon shopping, eating out or playing cards. She had recently moved to the Juanita Potts Family Home, a wonderful family style assisted living home, where she quickly settled in and became a member of the family residence. She hated to leave her trailer, but once she settled in and had Deric wrapped around her little finger, she was content and thoroughly enjoyed her new home.
She married the love of her life, Robert Jones on December 10, 1976 and became a step-mom to 4 kids, Don, Richard, Margaret (Peg) and Kathie. Being part of the Jones family meant you also liked trains. She fit right in and even traveled out west to ride the Durango – Silverton Train in Durango, Colorado. Even though she didn’t have her own kids, she enjoyed her step kids, and later spent a lot of time with her grandkids, and more recently got excited when she would hear about or see pictures of her great grandkids.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert, brother David Crater, sister-in-law Wanda Crater, brother-in-law Raymond White, step-son Don Jones, nephews Mark, John and Chris Crater.
She is survived by her brother Gordon Crater, sister Mary Lynn White and sister-in-law Fay Crater, step-kids Richard (Diane) Jones, Margaret Jones, Kathie (Dan) Sweitzer, 8 grandkids, 16 great grandkids, nieces and nephews (Penny, Tamara, Brenda, Ed, Brad, Greg, Jeff, and Robert), and their spouses and families and several close cousins.
Services will be held on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at 11 am at The Miller Funeral Home, Coshocton, with burial to follow at South Lawn Cemetery. Visiting hours will begin at 10 am.
In lieu of flowers, or for those who wish to make a memorial contribution, the family asks that donations be made to the Juanita Potts Family Home.
