Thurman Everett Cain
Thurman Everett Cain, 90, formerly of Canal Lewisville and Coshocton, passed away at 6:17 P.M., Thursday, October 3, 2013 at the Autumn Extended Care Facility in Coshocton.
Born February 3, 1923 in White Eyes Township, Coshocton County, Thurman was the last surviving immediate member of the late Howard Clifford and Mary E. (Reiss) Cain.
After his schooling and while working as a farmhand he was inducted in the U. S. Army where he served faithfully during World War II from March 9, 1943 until March 31, 1946 with overseas duty in the Rhineland and Central Europe with the 648th Tank Destroyer Battalion where he was awarded two bronze stars as a heavy machine gunner.
Thurman attended the West Lafayette Church of the Nazarene. He was a repairman for 22 years with Ohio Bell later known as AT&T followed with 12 years as a truck driver for the Coshocton County Highway Department before retiring.
In addition to his parents, Thurman was preceded in death by a sister Olive D. Marhofer; three brothers John T. Cain, Rev. Clifford R. Cain, Joseph P. Cain and a nephew Stanley Cain.
Surviving are a nephew Ross Cain of Coshocton; four nieces Sherylnn Carnes of West Lafayette, Sally (Keith) Hall of Warsaw, Cindy Moore of Kent, Washington, Jana (Michael) Bradley, and a sister-in-law Mary L. Cain both of Mexico, Missouri.
Calling hours will be held from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M., Monday, October 7, 2013 followed by a funeral service at 7:30 P.M. with Pastor Steve Young officiating at the Free Funeral Home, Coshocton.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 P.M., Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at Fairfield Cemetery in West Lafayette where military honors will be conducted by the Coshocton County Veterans Council.
