Two awe-inspiring exhibits to be displayed at ARTSNCT
NEWCOMERSTOWN – Newcomerstown’s new arts center is featuring the artworks of Lois Merrill and a very special exhibit of ceramics created by Newcomerstown Elementary School students.
Merrill was born and raised in Columbus and is a nurse doing reflexology and art therapy at Hospice of Guernsey, Inc. She moved to Newcomerstown with her husband, Dr. Timothy Merrill, when he opened his dental practice in 1980.
“I’ve always liked being creative with gardening, sewing, painting, jewelry, and pottery,” Lois said. “I started to paint seriously about 20 years ago. Lately, I’ve been making pottery, wind chimes, crystal sun catchers, and oil paintings. I also do a weaving workshop and make stepping memory stones for the bereaved at the hospice.
“I think of the creative arts, like music, dance, poetry, art, and drama as healing. They help us express what words sometimes cannot say, or when words are not enough. I like to think they bring out our joy; our joy in life, and our love of nature, family, friends, and faith.
“Sharing my paintings and art is sharing a part of me that I hope everyone will enjoy.”
The artworks of Lois Merril are on display at ARTSNCT through May 31.
An untitled exhibit of ceramics by Newcomerstown’s East and West School students is also on display at ARTSNCT through May 18.
It features truly amazing pieces of ceramic art by students in grades K-5. Each and every piece proves, in its own way, that it was carefully created with much care and great imagination. The subject matter, colors, and details of each piece tends to leave one in awe of these young artists.
