Ward qualifies for BassMasters tournament
Tanner Ward, a graduate of Kent State with a degree in applied engineering, recently qualified to fish in the BassMasters College Series Nationals Tournament.
His mother, Tonja Ward, said this is the fourth time he has qualified to fish the national tournament.
“He placed third out of 250 boats,” Tonja said. “This year he was fishing with Rory Franks and they had a total weight of 53 pounds, 12 ounces.” The tournament was held in Cypress Bend Park in Many, Louisiana.
“They had to fish Thursday and Friday to be able to fish Saturday,” said Tonja. She said Tanner would love to go pro at some point.
When Tanner is on the podium as a winner, the officials always ask him if there is anything he would like to say, according to Tonja. “I am so proud of him. He always says thank you, but this time, he said he wanted to thank all of his family and friends back home. The amount of calls and texts he gets are so overwhelming and it says so much about our small community. He so appreciates all the support and so do I.”
The date and location of the nationals will be announced at a later date.
