WARSAW – Around 180 people took part in a more than 100 year old tradition this past Saturday.

The 107th annual Warsaw Alumni Association Banquet was held May 20 at Warsaw Elementary School with the following classes being honored: 1937, 1942, 1947, 1952, 1957, 1962, and River View 1967.

“People come to reminisce and go over old times,” said Jim Lawrence

Another part of the tradition is presenting scholarships to River View High School graduates who attended Warsaw Elementary School, which once served as a high school.

Lawrence chairs the Warsaw Alumni Scholarship Committee and said since last year’s banquet they collected $7,000 in donations from 49 donors.

One of the scholarships award winners who attended the banquet was Jadyn Cline.

“There are a lot of deserving kids and for them to pick me means a lot,” he said. “It will really help.”

Cline plans to attend Bowling Green State University and major in aviation flight technology and operation and political science.

Michael Belt also appreciated being selected to receive a scholarship from the Warsaw Alumni Association.

“It means quite a bit that people that went here many years ago are willing to help us with going to college,” he said.

Belt plans to attend Muskingum University and major in music education with a focus on vocal.

Those who received scholarships from the alumni association included: Rylee Welch – $1,000 Warsaw Alumni Scholarship; Mickenzi Addy – $1,000 Clodaugh Brenneman Cline Scholarship; Michael Belt – $1,000 Davis Family Educational Grant; Jadyn Cline – $1,000 Honor Class of 1957 Scholarship; Kirsten Titus – $1,000 Honor Class of 1957 Scholarships; Taylor Massie – $1,000 Richard and Mary Daugherty Lawrence Memorial Scholarship; Andrew Lonsinger – $500 Alton and Mozell Kirch Agricultural Scholarship and $500 Buxton Family Memorial Scholarship.

“We’ve awarded $96,875 in scholarships since 1992,” Lawrence said. “This is a great group of people that believe in education.”
