West Lafayette Branch Library manager retiring
The Coshocton County District Library is announcing the retirement of West Lafayette Branch Manager Andrea Schweitzer-Smith. She dedicated 37 years of service to the library, including her work as a page, circulation clerk, children’s programming assistant, preservation department head, branch assistant, and branch manager.
“I have enjoyed each position held at the library over the years. Each step of the way has offered professional training opportunities, college classes, professional library organization networking, and outstanding mentors and coworkers,” Schweitzer-Smith said.
Schweitzer-Smith was a member of the Ohio Library Council for over 20 years, served on the OLC Small Libraries Division and Management, earned a CPLS (Certified Public Library Staff) certification, and attended Belmont Technical College for staff development.
“I have been a lifelong learner and have enjoyed learning technology, teaching patron computer classes, and individual technology trainings over the years,” Schweitzer-Smith said.
Schweitzer-Smith has been involved in many community organizations over the years, earning her awards and accomplishments for her service. She served as board chair and fundraising chair on the American Red Cross Board of Directors, marketing chair of the Wings over Coshocton air shows, and secretary for the Coshocton Airport Amphitheater Board. “Learning about diversity and others’ strengths came from my time of service on the Coshocton County Board of Developmental Disabilities,” Schweitzer-Smith said. She is a graduate of Leadership Coshocton County and served LCC as board chair and curriculum coordinator.
Schweitzer-Smith was awarded the Young Careerist of the Year in Ohio Region 10 by the Business and Professional Women’s Organization and the Community Improvement Award by the Coshocton County Chamber of Commerce. She was honored as Teacher of the Year for her years of children’s ministry at the Coshocton Nazarene Church. “I have loved working with children and teens during story time, teen library programming, and as a preschool and primary Sunday School teacher,” Schweitzer-Smith said.
Recently, Schweitzer-Smith was selected to serve on the West Lafayette Revitalization Committee and was honored to be selected by the West Lafayette Chamber of Commerce to serve as Grand Marshal of the 76th Annual West Lafayette Homecoming.
An open house retirement celebration for the public will be held in Schweitzer-Smith’s honor on Monday, July 29 from 4-6 p.m. at the West Lafayette Branch Library. Refreshments will be provided and served by the Friends of the Library.
