West Lafayette First Baptist Church hosts carnival
More than 100 young people ages 2 to sixth grade along with their families signed up for the third annual West Lafayette First Baptist Church Indoor Carnival on March 7, which was an afternoon of games, fun and prizes to help lose the winter blues.
Games included a bounce house, bowling, cornhole, football, basketball, darts, a fishing booth, a duck game, a hopping game for the younger children and a Frisbee throw. The carnival craft table was a fun way to be creative and take home a keepsake that you made yourself.
Austin Youker designed and created the obstacle course with limited materials, he said. Using folding chairs, foam swim noodles and some rope he built a fearsome challenge for kids with energy who are climbers and were up to the test.
The Cup Cake Walk was a new event this year. Just like an old-fashioned cake walk only with cupcakes making it easier for kids to handle.
“We have 50 cupcakes so..50 cupcakes equal 50 walks,” said Co-coordinator Rhonda Youker.
No one went away hungry thanks to the efforts of volunteers preparing plenty of “homemade” cookies, along with hot dogs, side dishes, drinks and a variety of potato chips for families to enjoy.
“We do this as an outreach to the community to let them know we are here for them,” Rhonda said, “But the main reason is We Love Jesus. We enjoy working with kids and we like them to come to our church. It was amazing after the flood last year we opened our doors to help people and show the love of Christ. The whole community really came together. It was an opportunity for the churches to get together as a light in the community. That’s what we want to be.”
Upcoming events at the church include an Easter Egg Hunt the Saturday before Easter and a Sunrise Service Easter morning from 5 – 7 a.m. For information, call the church at 740-545-7864.
