William ‘Bill’ Evans Stanton

COSHOCTON – William “Bill” Evans Stanton, 91, of Coshocton passed away Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Lafayette Point Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was born in Royal Oak, MI on May 5, 1927 to the late Edgar and Anna (Reese) Stanton.

Bill served in the United States Navy and worked as a lineman and then a product manager for Ohio Bell for 39 years before retiring. He was the national director for the National Emergency Number Association and was known as “Mr. 911”. Bill also started the Silver Sneakers walking club at Kids America and refereed basketball, football, and baseball for more than 40 years.

Bill is survived by his wife of 40 years, Bobby (Lyons) Stanton; sons Steve (Tina) Stanton of Zanesville and Shane (Kathy) Stanton of Canton; daughter Shawn (Jerry) Lapp of Dallas, TX; step sons Dan (Nikkie) Finnell of Grove City and Joe (Danielle) Finnell of Dubin, Ohio; grandchildren Shane, Sommer, Jenny, Mike, Taylor, Spencer, and Cholie; siblings Mac Stanton and Ann Tomasick; and several great grandchildren.

Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his grandson Chandler Finnell; sister Betty Waters; and previous wife, Betty Ann (Jones) Stanton.

Friends may call at the Miller Funeral Home and Crematory, 639 Main St., Coshocton, Ohio 43812 on Saturday, October 27, 2018 from 1:00pm – 3:00pm with funeral services beginning at 3:00pm with Pastor Bill Jones officiating. A cremation will take place following the services. Memorial contributions can be directed towards The Alzheimer’s Association; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
