William “Bill” Philabaum

William “Bill” Philabaum, 82, of Coshocton passed away on March 29, 2023 surrounded by his family at Select Specialty Hospital in Newark, Ohio. He was born on December 10, 1940 in Coshocton, Ohio.

A graduate of Coshocton High School in 1958, Bill joined the United States Navy in 1959 and served for four years as a typist. Upon completion of his enlistment with the Navy, Bill returned to Coshocton, Ohio to marry his high school sweetheart, Judith Holder, in 1963.

Bill worked at Ansell Edmonts for 40 years in the shipping department. A member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, he enjoyed giving back to his community. In 1982, Bill traveled over 5,000 miles with his family to promote the Coshocton Canal Festival in parades throughout the state of Ohio. He enjoyed meeting new people and sharing about his community with others. In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking and ceramic crafting with his wife, Judy.

He served as the president of the Coshocton High School Band Boosters, during the early 1980s, where he supported the students as they traveled to band competitions, football game performances, and even a momentous trip to march in the Gimbels Thanksgiving Day Parade in Philadelphia. Bill worked closely with the PepsiCo company in Coshocton to help procured equipment for the Coshocton High School gymnastics team in 1980.

Bill was known as Papaw to all who knew him. He loved attending and supporting all sporting events for the Coshocton High School Redskins. He enjoyed sitting on the sidelines and cheering on his children, grandchildren, and many of their friends as they competed in various sporting events such as volleyball, softball, baseball, and soccer games as well as cheering on his youngest grandson and best buddy Austin in wrestling matches.

Bill was a loving father and Papaw. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Judith Philabaum, his four children Heidi (Michael) Samuelson of Lakeland, Tennessee, Holly (Corty) Guthrie of Coshocton, Ohio, Heather Walker of Coshocton, Ohio, and Lasha Philabaum of Coshocton, Ohio and his four grandchildren, Zachariah Samuelson of Murray, Kentucky, Aaron Getchey of Coshocton, Ohio, Courtney Guthrie (Kyle Bergeron) of Coshocton, Ohio, and Austin Guthrie of Coshocton, Ohio.

A celebration of his life is planned for the family at a later date.
